Today, we tried something different from the outlined syllabus. The following exercises are meant to allow the students to practice their speaking and communication skills.
Exercise 1
- The lecturer chooses a student to come to the front of the class.
- The student is asked to introduce one of his/her classmates (chosen by the lecturer)to the class.
- This exercise will benefit the students the most when they have to introduce the person who are not familiar to them.
Exercise 2
- The students are divided into two groups. One group represents the Smile Village, while the other represents the Fierce Village.
- Smile Village and Fierce Village are connected by a river. Fierce Village is located at the top of the hill, while the Smile Village is at the foot of the hill.
- The water at Smile Village is contaminated, so they are to persuade the villagers of Fierce Village to allow them to enter their village and get the water from there.
- The Smile Village has to choose one representative to deal with a representative from the Fierce Village.
- The representative from the Smile Village has to smile all the time and use diplomacy to deal with the Fierce Village representative. As the village's name suggest, the rep of Fierce Village has to be stern and firm when dealing with Smile Village.
Exercise 3
- Two students are called to the front of the class.
- One has to pretend to be sulking, and the other has to console her/him.
- They have to communicate with each other to understand the real problem (that they have to create on their own) that initiated this situation.
